These terms are official words used in Weiss Schwarz. For Slang Terms: Slang Terms (English), Slang Terms (Japanese)

Accelerate (加速)[]

A special type of ability that some Character Cards have. This ability only activates during the beginning of the Climax Phase and requires the player to place the top card of their Deck into their clock. After doing so, the player gains certain abilities.

Alarm (アラーム)[]

A special type of ability that some Card have. This ability only activates when the card is the top card of your clock.

Attack (アタック・攻撃)[]

There are 3 types of attacks: Frontal, Side and Direct

Front Attack (フロントアタック)[]

The Attacking Character's soul stay the same and battle occurs between it and the character facing it

Side Attack (サイドアタック)[]

The Attacking Character's soul decrease by the level of the character facing it and battle does not occur.

Direct Attack (ダイレクトアタック)[]

The Attacking Character's soul increase by one and this type of attack only occurs if there are no characters facing the Attacking Character.

Assist (応援)[]

A special type of ability that some Character Cards have. When that Character is in the Back Stage, it gives power to the 2 Characters in front of it.

Bond (絆)[]

A special type of ability that some Character Cards have. When the Character with the ability is place on Stage from Hand, then you may pay a cost to retrieve a particular Character Card from your Waiting Room to your Hand.

Brainstorm (集中)[]

A special type of ability that some Cards have. It requires the top X cards to be revealed and sent to Waiting Room. And depending on what kind of cards were revealed, the player gets certain abilities.

Change (チェンジ)[]

A special type of ability that some Character Cards have. At the Beginning of a certain phase, the character card will pay a certain cost and a particular Character can take its place on Stage.

Climax Card (クライマックス)[]

Special type of card that is sideways. These cards may only be played during your Climax Phase.

Clock (クロック)[]

Represents how much damage you've taken. If your Clock has 7 or more cards, then you Level Up, where you choose 1 card from the bottom 7 cards and place it in your Level Zone. The other 6 are sent to Waiting Room and the rest of the cards stay in your Clock.

Character Card (キャラ)[]

Cards representing a character from an Anime/Game. They are played on your Stage and go to your Waiting Room when they are beaten. 

Counter (カウンター)[]

Cards with the Counter icon under its cost can be played during your opponent's character's Counter Step. Usually they will give power to the defending Character.

Damage (ダメージ)[]

When you take Damage, you flip over cards from the top of your deck till either the number of cards flipped equals the amount of Damage taken, or you flip a Climax card. If the number of cards flipped equals the amount of Damage taken, then take all those cards and place them in your Clock. If you flip a Climax card, then stop flipping over cards, take all those cards and place them in your Waiting Room. 

Deck (山札)[]

The location of the Play Mat where you draw cards from. Both players cannot see the contents of this zone. You draw a card from your Deck during each of your Draw Phase.

Encore (アンコール)[]

A special type of ability that all Character Cards have. When the Character Card with the ability is placed into the Waiting Room from Stage, then you may pay the cost to place the Character Card back on the Stage in the same slot they were in and in 【rest】position. All Character Cards have Encore [(3)] but there are many other Encore abilities.

Encore can be conducted regardless of phase as long as the requirements are met (e.g. if a card is to be sent to the Waiting Room via an Event Card's effect played during the main phase, it can still be encored if the player pays the appropriate cost).

Event Card (イベント)[]

A type of card, where after resolving its abilities it is sent to the Waiting Room(unless otherwise noted). Most can only be played during the Main Phase. Some Event Cards may be played during the opponent's Battle Phase during the Counter Step.

Experience (経験)[]

A special type of ability that some Cards have. Depending on the sum of the level of your cards in your Level Zone, this ability may or may not activate.

Great Performance (大活躍)[]

A special type of ability that some Character Cards have. If the Character with the ability is in the middle slot of Center Stage, then your opponent's Character can only declare Front Attack on that Character during their Battle Phase. When the Character with Great Performance is reversed, the Character loses the Great Performance ability.

Hand (手札)[]

The only place where cards are not on the Play Mat. Also the only zone where you can see the cards but the opponent cannot.

Memory (記憶)[]

A location on the Play Mat usually placed above the Deck. Also refers to special type of abilities that activates when certain cards are in memory.

Play Mat (プレイマット)[]

This is where all your cards are placed. The only zone not on the Play Mat is your Hand.

Refresh (リフレッシュ)[]

When the number of cards in your Deck reaches 0, then shuffle your Waiting Room and put it face-down on the Deck zone. Then place the top card of your Deck into your Clock (this damage cannot be canceled, even if it is a Climax Card). This is called "Refresh Penalty".

Shift (シフト)[]

A special type of ability that some Cards have. This abiilty activates only at the beginning of your Main Phase and only when the card is in your Clock. Depending on your level, you can exchange a card from your Hand with that card if they are the same color.

Soul (ソウル)[]

The amount of potential damage that a character can inflict on an opponent. Indicated by the symbol to the right.

Special Attribute (特徴)[]

Character cards have 0-2 Special Attributes associated with themselves. Cards with the same Special Attributes usually form a very well structured deck.

Stage (舞台)[]

The location on the Play Mat where Character Cards can be placed. There are 5 slots (枠) where a single Character Card can occupy. The front 3 slots are called Center Stage and the back 2 slots are called Back Stage. 

Stock (ストック)[]

Cards are placed face-down in this location of the Play Mat. Cards are placed from the Stock to Waiting Room to pay for entry costs or ability costs of cards. The main method of gaining Stock is by Attacking with a Character.

Trigger (トリガー)[]

This is denoted on the top right corner of every card. When one of your Character attacks, you will reveal the top card of your Deck. This card is considered the "Triggered Card". And if there is a icon on the top right corner of the "Triggered Card", you may gain certain abilities listed below. After resolving the ability, the "Triggered Card" is placed in your Stock face down.

None[]

there are some Character cards and Event cards with no icon. If this icon is triggered, then nothing happens.

Soul icon (ソウル)[]

Soul

there are some Character cards with 1 Soul icon. If this icon is triggered, then the Attacking Character will gain +1 Soul.

Return/Bounce/Wind icon (リターン)[]

there are some Yellow Climax cards with 1 Return icon with 1 Soul icon. When the Return icon is triggered, choose up to 1 Character on your opponent's Stage and return that Character Card to your opponent's Hand.

Pool/Bag/Stock icon (プール)[]

Pool

there are some Green Climax cards with 1 Pool icon. When this icon is triggered, you may choose to place the top card of your Deck into your Stock.

Comeback/Door/Salvage icon (カムバック)[]

there are some Red Climax cards with 1 Comeback icon. When this icon is triggered, you may choose up to 1 Character Card in your Waiting Room and add that card to your Hand.

Draw/Book icon (ドロー)[]

Draw

there are some Blue Climax cards with 1 Draw icon. When this icon is triggered, you may draw up to 1 card from your Deck.

Shot/Burn icon (ショット)[]

there are some Yellow Climax cards with 1 Shot icon and 1 Soul icon. When the Shot icon is triggered, then if the next attack gets canceled, then your opponent takes 1 damage.

Treasure/Gold Bar icon (トレジャー)[]

there are some Green Climax cards with 1 Treasure icon. When this icon is triggered, then you may choose to place the top card of your Deck to your Stock. Then this card is added to your Hand.

Gate/Pants icon (ゲート)[]

Gate

there are some Blue Climax cards with 1 Gate icon and 1 Soul icon. When the Gate icon is triggered, you may choose up to 1 Climax card in your Waiting Room and add that card to your Hand.

Waiting Room (控え室)[]

This location on your Play Mat is where cards are placed face up in a pile after they are used. When the number of cards in your Deck reaches 0, then the cards in your Waiting Room will become your new Deck. see Refresh.
